Lady Tigers wrap up area

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers wrapped up a first place finish in softball competition against area opponents by blanking Russellville 6-0 at the Grady and Margie Long Softball Complex on Wednes-day, April 7.
The win improved their overall record to 24-13 and 5-1 in the area and earned a number one seed and home field advantage in the upcoming area tournament.
The Lady Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a double and single, scored two more in the third and closed out the win with a three-run fourth inning.
Olivia Golden set the pace at the plate with a pair of singles. Lindsey Romager and Chelsea Bennich each doubled and Ashley Bonner, Alex Paulsen, Meaghan Gray and Kelsey Starr each singled.
Gray pitched all seven innings and was credited with the win. She allowed only two hits while striking out seven, walking five and hitting a batter.
The Lady Tigers will compete in the Morgan County Tournament Thursday -Saturday at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur. In pool play they will face West Morgan at 4 p.m. and Decatur at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Priceville at 4 p.m. on Friday.
The double-elimination tournament will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and conclude on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Baseball
Hartselle splits
Hartselle’s Jackson Reeves hit a grand slam to help send the Tigers to a 13-7 win over Hillcrest Monday.
Robby Reece also homered for the Tigers in the win. He also had two singles.
Mac Hendrix, Logan Cain, Ryan Joy and Drew Cowan finished with two hits each.
Colby Nelson picked up the win in relief.
Hillcrest rallied in the last two innings to beat Hartselle 7-5 in the first game of the doubleheader.
Joy had a two-run homer for the Tigers, while Cowan and Cain - who had three hits - added RBI doubles for the Tigers, who host Lee Friday afternoon in the first round of the 5A playoffs.
