Funeral for William A. Petty, 92, of Falkville was Tuesday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at Lebanon Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Ashley and the Rev. A. Ray Lee officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Petty died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at his residence. He was born January 24, 1917, in Nimmons, Ark., to Van and Laura Stell Petty. After Graduating from Ouachita Baptist College, he and his wife Margaret served in the mission field in Alaska for six years. After moving to Alabama, he attended the University of Alabama and received his master’s degree in education. He taught two years at Eva High School and then taught psychology, sociology and history at Cullman High School for 20 years. After retiring from teaching he and his wife served in the mission field in Hawaii for several years until retiring permanently on their farm near Falkville. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Petty; two brothers; three sisters; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Brindley Petty; two sons, William Petty and wife Susan of Felton, Penn and Peter Petty and wife Carolyn of Falkville; a daughter, Mary Floyd and husband Tony of Gallipolis, Ohio; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bill Dobbs, Jim Aycock, Bobby Rhodes, Don Crow, Gary Grantland and Elton Weaver.
Honorary pallbearer was Rayburn Brown.
