Funeral for Thomas Reid Merrill, 67, of Houston, Texas was Wednesday, April 22, at 3 p.m. at Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis &Sons in Houston. Immediately following the service, a reception was held in the adjacent Pavilion.
A graveside service was held in Waterloo on Friday, April 24.
Mr. Merrill died Friday, April 17, 2009, in the presence of his loving wife. He was born March 25, 1942, in Cullman to Fuller and Landis Merrill. He was a Vietnam veteran. He received a BS degree from the University of Tennessee and was recruited on campus by K-Mart, for which he worked for many years. After moving to Houston, Texas in 1980, he worked primarily in sales and marketing.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Gabriele R. Merrill; a brother, Dr. C. Max Merrill and wife Barbara of Hartselle; and his mother-in-law, Emmy Rupflin of Gadsden.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family requests donations in his memory be made to the Kiwanis Foundation of Houston, 10600 NW Freeway #200, Houston, Texas, 77092 or the charity of your choice.
