Hartselle School Board accepted a recommendation from Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed to transfer all Nutrition Program employees to the central office, effective with the 2009-2010 school year.
The change will place them under the direct supervision of Jerry Reeves, director of school operations and student services and they will be assigned at the various schools based on participation and need.
Dr. Reed said the move is aimed at improving the efficiency of lunchroom operations as a whole and indicated he will recommend a similar change for custodial employees at a later date.
Board Chairman Dr. Andy Dukes questioned Reed if the salaries of the lunchroom workers would be included as a part of the central office budget.
Reed indicated he felt their salaries could be coded so that they would remain a part of the individual school budgets.
Board member Kathy Goodwin said she had no problem with the change but stressed the need to communicate with the affected employees so that they understand why the change is being made and how it will affect them personally.
