Tigers blast Trojans on road

MUSCLE SHOALS - Hartselle used a three-goal barrage in the second half to blow past Muscle Shoals 5-0 Monday in a Class 5A, Section 8 match on the road.
Senior Zack Woodruff led Hartselle with two goals, while Robert Sharp picked up the shutout in goal.
The win ended Hartselle’s four-game losing streak. The Tigers’ last win came in February with a 3-2 decision against Athens.
Hartselle improved to 5-4-1 with the win over the Trojans.
Hartselle had 11 shots in the game.
Woodruff gave the Tigers the lead in the first half with a goal at the 31:30 mark.
Blake Holoway scored one minute later to push the Hartselle lead to 2-0.
Aaron Teal got a shot past the Muscle Shoals goalie just 12 minutes into the second half to add to the lead.
Hartselle added its final two goals in a span of just 19 seconds to put the game out of reach. Woodruff scored his second goal of the night with 3:49 remaining in the game and Stephen Owen capped the scoring with a goal on Hartselle’s next shot on goal for the 5-0 lead.
Hartselle opened up the season 4-0-1, but suffered four straight losses in the Island Cup tournament in Gulf Shores. The Tigers dropped matches to St. Paul’s, Fairhope, Cullman and Tulsa, Okla.
