Hazel A. Prater

Funeral for Hazel A. Prater, 83, of Trinity was Saturday, Mar. 14, at 2 p.m. at Speake Christian Fellowship Church with the Revs. Francis Proctor, Denzel Borden and Ray Hill officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Friendship Cemetery, south of Danville.
Mrs. Prater died Wednesday, Mar. 11, 2009, at NHC Healthcare in Moulton. She was born Mar. 16, 1925, in Lawrence County to Homer L. Hill and Gertrude Woodard Hill. She attended Speake Christian Fellowship Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was truly devoted to her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will always be remembered for the sacrifices she made, the wonderful meals she cooked, her beautiful smile and caring nature. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Linden Hill, two sisters, Ruth Bell and Ozell McMurty; and two grandchildren, Jeff Prater and Jim Erdogan.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Russell Prater of Trinity; four sons, Don L. Prater of Trinity, David Prater of Sumter, S.C., Kenneth Prater of Prospect, Tenn. and Ben Prater of Arley; three daughters, Betty Taylor of Poquoson, Va., Shelby Orlando of Madison and Barbara Hallmark of Trinity; two brothers, Leon Hill and Ray Hill, both of Trinity; five sisters, Bernice Stafford and Mabel Castelein, both of Warrior, Mildred Bowling of Danville, Myrle Conner of Pontiac, Mich. and Patricia Prater of Eva; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Erdogan, Brandon Prater, Matthew Orlando, Derick Hallmark, Trice Koshowsky and Donley Koshowsky.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wagner, the staff at NHC Nursing Home, Hospice of the Valley and Iva Kirby for the loving and compassionate care they provided.
