County retirees receiving special one-time payment

By By Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
Morgan County commissioners have approved a one-time lump sum payment totaling $24,529 for county retirees.
The payment will be made in December based on $1 per month for each year of service credited to the retiree’s account.
In order to be eligible for the payment, a retiree must be receiving a monthly retirement benefit from the Employees’ Retirement System prior to Oct. 1. Morgan County currently has 99 retirees.
The commission also discussed a recent traffic study at McEntire Lane and Gordon Terry Parkway, which was conducted by the State Department of Transportation. The study concluded that the busy intersection warrants a traffic signal but apparently no commitment was made for its installation and upkeep.
