John Thomas ‘Tommy’ Compton

Funeral for John Thomas “Tommy” Compton, 75, of Vinemont was Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m., at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jeff Redmond and Carter Hudson officiating.
Burial was in Falkville City Cemetery.
Mr. Compton died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at his residence. He was born March 18, 1933, in Morgan County to John Olen Compton and Ruth Louella Evans Compton. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle and was retired as owner of the Tommy Compton Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge new car dealership in Decatur. He served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1952 to June 1956. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Hugh Compton, and a sister, Mary Jo Whatley.
He is survived by his wife, Nedra Hudson Compton of Vinemont; a son, John Owen Compton and wife Tammy of Hartselle; two daughters, Cathy D. Ward of Decatur and Melinda Beth Compton of Hartselle; three sisters, Kaye Bates of Hartselle, Jackie Phillips of Athens and Anna Honeycutt of Odenville; three grandchildren, Heather Ward, John Thomas Compton and Amber Compton.
Pallbearers were J.T. Compton, Charlie Jones, Robert Haggard, Dewey Briscoe, C.E. Brannon Jr. and Bruce Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Dewel’s Doubles Sunday School Class.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Hartselle Building Fund or to Omega Hospice of Cullman.
