Funeral for William Perry ‘Bill’ Freeman Jr., 86, of Decatur was Tuesday, June 10, at 11 a.m. at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Patton officiating.
Mr. Freeman died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Walker County to William Perry Freeman Sr. and Linnie Bell Pike Freeman. He was a member of Somerville Road Church of Christ in Decatur. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II with the rank of Seaman First Class. He was stationed at U.S. Naval Air Stations in Livermore, Calif., Alameda, Calif. And Santa Rosa, Calif. He lived by his motto, “give an honest days work for an honest days pay.” He was a member of Bricklayers &Allied Craft Workers Local #15 in Decatur. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 54 years, Dovie Freeman, and a sister, Virginia White.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Mae Garner Sanders Freeman of Decatur; three sons, Larry Freeman and wife Debbi of Argo, Don Sanders and wife Jimmie Lee of Madison and James Sanders and wife Sherrie; a daughter, Sandra Smith and husband Glenn of Hartselle; a brother, Melvin Freeman and wife Marion of Attalla; and seven grandchildren, Teresa Humerick and husband Paul, Jason Freeman, Garron Freeman, Kelly McKleroy, Cindy Pagan and Holly Walls, all of Madison, and Kathy Bazemore of Guntersville.
Pallbearers were members of Somerville Road Church of Christ.
