FHS grad receives Fields scholarship

The annual Jane Nelson Fields Memorial Scholarship was presented to Lauren Estes, a senior at Falkville High School.
Estes played basketball, volleyball and was on the track and field team. She was also homecoming queen, a member of the national honor society and salutatorian of her class. Estes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Estes. The scholarship is in memory of Jane Nelson Fields who graduated from Falkville High School. Fields played basketball at Calhoun Community College and basketball and softball at UNA. She later was a teacher and coach at Speake High School, Hazelwood High School and Eva Junior High School. She passed away Dec. 15, 2005 from a long battle with ovarian cancer. The scholarship is an annual one time award available to any senior female athlete in the Morgan County School System. Contributions to the Jane Nelson Fields memorial scholarship can be made at either Superior Banks in Falkville or Hartselle. A multi year plaque was also presented to be displayed at the school of the scholarship recipient for that year.
