Mayor: Falkville not a speedtrap

By Staff
Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
The facts don’t support an allegation made by a Hartselle resident that the Town of Falkville is a speed trap, said Mayor Jimmie Walker, prior to providing a listing of various citations written by the town’s police department over the past 12 months.
The list shows Falkville police officers issued a total of 1,073 citations for some 67 different offenses in 2007. Of that number 370 were for speeding.
Falkville was accused of being a speed trap by Jimmie Clemons in a letter she wrote and submitted to the Hartselle Enquirer for publication as a letter to the Editor. She acknowledged being ticketed for speeding but claimed she and her husband were not speeding when they received the ticket while driving through the town.
