A much talked about and long-awaited spring trade promotion in Hartselle will become a reality June 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. under the name of “Hartselle Harmony and Hospitality.”
Sponsored by Hartselle Downtown Merchants Association, the event will feature a drawing for door prizes donated by participating merchants and five hours of live stage entertainment in E.A.R.T.H. Park. Co-sponsors are Charter Media, Bank Independent and Steele’s Entertainment Center.
All 28 members of the Downtown Merchants Association are expected to participate, according to Carey Green, president. The participating businesses will be marked with a cluster of red, white and blue helium-filled balloons. Each one will offer a valuable door prize of its choosing and invite shoppers to register for the prize throughout the day. All of the prizes will be awarded at a single drawing at the E.A.R.T.H. Park gazebo at 5 p.m.
A fun-filled afternoon of musical entertainment will begin at noon at the gazebo in E.AR.T.H. Park with a performance by Unity Quartet, a Southern gospel group. Michael Dean and Memphis will follow at 1:30 p.m. Rudy Mockabee, a popular soloist, will perform at 3 p.m. and Phillip Grigsby, who entertains with the sounds of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, will close out the musical program at 4:15 p.m.
There is no admission charge. The public is invited to bring along lawns chairs and blankets and spent an afternoon listening to a variety of music and songs.
A food court will be set up in the off-street parking area opposite E.A.R.T.H Park. The Morgan County Cattlemen’s Association will grill ribeye steaks and serve them in sandwiches. Another vendor will offer pit barbecue sandwiches. Two CocaCola wagons will be manned by volunteers from Wal-Mart, with proceeds to be donated to the SNAP Project.
Green said the promotion will be renamed next year and become an annual spring event.
