Tigers' streak ends

Hartselle opened the Hoover Spring Break Invitational with three wins in a pair of doubleheaders.
The Tigers beat West Morgan 5-2 and Oxford 5-4 Monday, then added a 14-0 victory over Pickering of Canada Tuesday. Hoover ended the Tigers’ five-game winning streak with a 3-1 decision.
Hartselle 5, West Morgan 2
Luke Bole, Josh Slaten, Mike Hasse and Walton Ashwander all had RBIs for the Tigers in the win over the Rebels.
Other players with hits were Tony Weaver, Ethan Widener and Will Chappell.
Garrett Turrentine went two innings before yielding to Andrew Howard, who picked up the victory with five innings of relief work.
Hartselle 5, Oxford 4
Luke Bole homered and singled to lead the Tigers past Oxford. He finished with three RBIs in the win.
Zack Waddell had three hits - a double and two singles - with an RBI for the Tigers.
Ryan Joy had a single and a double, while Weaver, Howard, Taylor Nelson and Braddock Wilson all added hits.
J.C. Bates allowed just three hits over seven innings of work. He finished with seven strikeouts and surrendered just one earned run.
Hartselle 14, Pickering 0
Weaver doubled twice and added two singles with four RBIs as the Tigers routed Pickering.
Chappell had a double and a single with three RBIs.
Widener had two RBIs with a double and Turrentine singled twice and finished with two RBIs. Josh Doyle and Zac Bodley both drove in a run for the Tigers.
Bodley had two singles.
Also adding hits were Doyle, Will Ellis, Mike Hasse and Ashwander.
Bole earned the win after striking out five in four innings. He allowed three hits.
Bodley finished up with a scoreless inning of relief work.
Hoover 3, Hartselle 1
Hartselle’s six-game win streak ended with the loss.
Chad Girodo took the loss despite allowing just one earned run. He struck out eight.
Bole had a double and a single, while Turrentine had a double. Ryan Joy added a single.
