Hartselle’s Lady Tigers won one game and lost one in pool play at the Nike Gulf Shores Softball Classic on Monday to run their season record to 10-4.
They defeated Dickinson County, Tenn. 7-1 in the first game and lost to Chelsea 5-2 in the second game.
In the win, the Lady Tigers came up with nine hits and Breanna Riley pitched a four-hitter over four innings.
Hartselle had eight hits in the loss. Chelsea broke the game open by scoring four runs in the third inning.
The Lady Tigers’ Meaghan Gray was the losing pitcher.
The Lady Tigers were paired up against Lincoln County, Tenn., West Morgan and Jemison in pool play on Tuesday.
Results of those games were not available at press time.
The Lady Tigers were also scheduled to compete in single elimination tournament play on Wednesday before returning home later that afternoon.
The competitive tournament pulled in 54 teams.
Hartselle will play its next four games at home against Sparkman, Brewer, Austin and West Point, before playing in the Bob Jones varsity tournament in Huntsville April 3-5.
Hartselle 1, Cullman 0
Hartselle’s Lady Tigers scored an unearned run the bottom of the sixth inning and went on to defeat the Cullman Lady Bearcats 1-0 in an area game at home March 13.
The win upped the Lady Tigers’ record to 9-3 on the season.
The winning run was scored by Anna Beth Hall who reached base on a single with one out. She advanced to second base on a passed ball, moved to third on a fielder’s choice ground ball hit by Kristy Pevahouse and came home on another passed ball.
Hartselle had only one other hit, a single by Alex Paulsen in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Breanna Riley was the winning pitcher. She allowed two hits, no walks and struck out 17 batters.
Hartselle 6, Madison Academy 1
Hartselle’s Lady Tigers defeated Madison Academy’s Lady Mustangs 8-1 on the road March 10 to pick up their eighth win of the season against three losses.
The winners sent 11 runners to the plate in the top of the second inning. scoring seven runs on two hits, two walks and two errors. They scored another run in the top of the sixth. Madison Academy’s only run came in the third inning.
Meaghan Gray was the winning pitcher. She struck out four, walked two and gave up three hits in four innings of work.
Breanna Riley came on in relief for Hartselle in the fifth inning. She struck out seven, walked one and allowed no hits.
Hartselle’s hitters were Kristy Pevahouse with a triple and Sara Lang, Audrey McClanahan and Anna Beth Hall each with a single.
