County part of trauma network

By Staff
Morgan County is part of a coverage area being served by a new Regional Trauma System. Using a Trauma Communication Center, trauma centers will be electronically monitored so that people in emergency situations are transported to the facility that can best handle their conditions.
Hospital participation in voluntary. Hospitals participating are Decatur General, Athens-Limestone Hospital, Crestwood Medical Center, Cullman Regional Medical, Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, Marshall Medical Center North, Marshall Medical Center South, Parkway Medical Center and Russellville Hospital. Emergency medical technicians at the scene identify injured patients and route them to the closest hospital which has the resources to care for the patient. The EMT contacts the Trauma Communications Center, which knows the current status of all hospitals in North Alabama; so that the patient is routed only to the hospital best able to care for the patient.
