Tigers pick up two wins

Hartselle improved to 4-0 on the season with wins Saturday over Gadsden and Etowah after getting two strong pitching performances from Chad Girodo and J.C. Bates.
Girodo threw a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over Gadsden in the opening game. He finished with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Ethan Widener homered for Hartselle. He finished the game with two hits.
Hartselle 5, Etowah 1
David Reeves and Will Ellis drove in two runs each as the Tigers picked up a win over Etowah.
Bates went the distance and finished with eight strikeouts to get the win.
Ryan Joy and Andrew Howard both had two hits for the Tigers in the game.
Priceville 19, Clements 8
Priceville’s Dalton Lorance had three hits and Jared Taylor added two hits in a 19-8 rout of Clements.
Lorance finished with two singles and a double in the win.
Taylor had a homer for Priceville and added a double.
Eric Plemons got the win for Priceville after striking out three in three innings of work.
Softball
Priceville 9, Athens 5
Priceville picked up its first win of the season with a 9-5 decision over Athens Monday afternoon.
Jessica Hooper earned the victory after striking out three in seven innings of work.
Danielle Richard and Meaghan Bond had three hits each for the Lady Bulldogs, who gave Nicole Martinez her first career win.
Richard was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a single, while Bond finished with three singles.
Chelsie Garner added two singles in the win in Priceville’s season opener.
Priceville trailed 3-0 early in the game, but scored five runs to take the lead for good.
Seniors Sumer Boyd and Jessica Hopper each added singles. Priceville’s Chasity Martin made a catch at thefence in left field to help hold off a late Athens rally.
The Lady Bulldogs added four more runs in the final two innins to seal the win.
