A graveside service for McKinley Green, 88, of Decatur will be Thursday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at Ft. Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., with the Rev. Donnie Smith officiating. Peck Funeral Home handled local arrangements.
Mr. Green died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at Cedar Springs Retirement Home in Decatur. He was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Walker County to Benjamin F. Green and Kizzie E. Sims Green. He was married for 53 years to Florence D. Green until her death in 2000. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and as a public schoolteacher. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son, Michael Green and wife Sabrina of Decatur; a daughter, Patrice Wood and husband Michael of Youngstown, Ohio; five grandchildren, Danny Wood, Melody Waddell, Steven Wood, K. C. Green and Malory Green; and a great-grandchild, Ian McKinley Waddell.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family request that memorials be made to Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
