June 28, 1957-The two churches holding revival services in Hartselle, Bethel Baptist and Hartselle Methodist, have reported large crowds at each service.
June 28, 1957-Mr. and Mrs. Earl Payne left this afternoon for Gulf Shores where they will spend a few days' vacation.
June 29, 1957-Hartselle area senior citizens are now getting an average of $31.46 each month from the federal government and $25.09 from the state as far as their monthly pensions are concerned. This totals out to $56.55. (Some recipients get only a federal or a state check, however.)
June 30, 1957-L. G. Martin, a Hartselle police officer with nearly two decades of service, retired effective at the end of his shift today. Mayor John Burleson praised Martin for his excellent service to the community and "regretted very much" his leaving the force.
June 30, 1957-Mr. and Mrs. William M. Cost and children, Ruth Gayle and Mikie, are in Clanton today to attend a Cost family reunion.
July 1, 1957-B. G. Hall, manager for the Morgan County Exchange since 1945, took a new job today as a Farm Bureau insurance agent. Hall's base of operations continues to be in Hartselle and he will focus mostly on servicing insurance policies.
July 2, 1957-Many Hartselle readers are finding the book "Peyton Place" by Grace Metalious a book they simply can't put down once they start reading it. It's number one on the national best seller list.
July 3, 1957-Here are some prices of produce currently at local grocery stores. Lemons are 23 cents a dozen, cabbage is 5 cents a pound, bananas are 15 cents a pound, and you can get 6 ears of corn for 25 cents.
July 4, 1957-The Highway Patrol reported an accident-less day in Morgan County on this national holiday despite greater than average traffic.
However, Sheriff Jimmie Collier did apprehend three for VPL infractions, two for public drunkenness, and one for safekeeping (insanity).
July 4, 1957-Mr. and Mrs. Doc Jones hosted Mr. and Mrs. Lucian Jones and family, residents of Detroit, at a picnic at the Jones residence on West Chestnut Street.
