June 21, 1957-Harold Aldridge, Danville, driving a 1954 Mercury, was involved in a minor auto wreck today. The accident, which happened close to Harold's home, apparently was caused when the car went out of control and afterwards careened into an embankment off the road.
June 22, 1957-Hartselle shoppers in Birmingham today got soaked. The Magic City got four inches of rain during just a few hours, the most in 57 years.
June 22, 1957-Mrs. V. A. Laney and baby daughter, Janet Arlene, were released from Hartselle Hospital this afternoon
June 23, 1957-An unusually good singing convention was held at Friendship church today.
June 24, 1957-Elia Kazan, well known director of such Hollywood films as "On the Waterfront" and "Baby Doll," is presently in the Tennessee Valley to gather background for the filming of William Bradford Huie's book "Mud on the Stars." The novel, one of the early works by the famous Hartselle writer, is a story centering about the formation of the TVA and its effects on the everyday lives of this region's residents.
June 24, 1957-Allegations of a speedtrap in Moulton are widespread at present. Jim Butler, Morgan County representative of AAA, says out-of-state residents are especially being targeted.
One unsuspecting tourist reported that he paid $11 to an officer at the scene and was then let go.
June 25, 1957-The Hartselle City Council met tonight in regular bi-monthly session in the city clerk's office in the new municipal building. The main purpose of the meeting was to air complaints regarding recent paving work done by the city.
June 26, 1957-Four Russian diplomats are currently visiting in Morgan County. Their purpose is to see how the people of the South live and work and to help Americans have a better understanding of the Soviet Union.
June 26, 1957-Mayor John Burleson was in Birmingham tonight to see the Birmingham Barons at Rickwood Field.
June 27, 1957-The average per capita income in Alabama is now about $1,200 annually. This is up from $380 in 1949 and $870 in 1950.
June 27, 1957-Mrs. Opal C. Stewart returned this afternoon from a week's vacation in Belle Plane, Kans., her birthplace.
June 27, 1957-The Oak Ridge MYF surprised Pvt. Lewis Wynn, Camp Gordon, Ga., with a "send-off" party tonight at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Kirby. MYF treasurer Harold Thompson presented Pvt. Wynn with a Bible at the close of the night's activities.
