A graveside service for Newlin Shirley, 83, of Decatur was Tuesday, May 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Shoal Creek Cemetery with Bro. A. Ray Lee officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Shirley died Sunday, May 20, 2007, at his residence. He was born Nov. 12, 1923, in Morgan County to Louis A. Shirley and Martha Bentley Shirley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who served aboard the USS Tennessee. He is survived by a sister, Ivy Dean Clemons of Decatur; four nephews, Lynn Shirley of Decatur, Steve Shirley of Birmingham, Mike Clemons of Decatur and Jeff Clemons of Memphis, Tenn.; and three nieces, Esther Moore, Sandra Tidwell and Deborah Peete, all of Decatur.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
