Funeral for J.B. Price, 82, of Hartselle was Sunday, May 20, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Redmond officiating.
Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Mr. Price died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born September 28, 1924, in Mississippi to W. R. Price and Aughty Moore Price.
He retired from the U. S. Army in 1981 after serving as a B-17 crew member in Italy in World War II and a Green Beret with the 20th Special Forces Group. He served in the Alabama Army National Guard for 38 years. He also was retired from BellSouth after more than 35 years of service as district manager in charge of networks. He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle. He was an avid lover of music who enjoyed playing his guitar almost as much as he delighted himself by playing a round of golf with his dearest friends. Colonel Price will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched so deeply.
He is survived by his wife, Margie D. Ray Price of Hartselle, to whom he was married for nearly 60 years and to whom he referred as “The Light of My Life”; a son, Micky L. Price and wife Susie of Calera; a daughter, Yvonne Price Prescott and husband Robert of Thomaston, Ga.; two brothers, Buryl Price and wife Linda of Bay Minette and Billy Price and wife Jeanine of Pinson; a sister, Betty Maass and husband John of Hattiesburg, Miss.; five grandchildren, Heather Martin and husband Brian, Andrew Price, Karly Price, Owen Griffin and Erin Griffin; and two great-grandchildren, Emille and Kirin Martin. Pallbearers were Andy Price, Owen Griffin, Bill Baxby, Jim Tilley, Alex Whetstone and Wayne Higdon.
Tom Bonds was an honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hartselle Building Fund.
