May 12, 1957-Dean Jones, a Morgan County native now in the movies in Hollywood, sang a special tribute to Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, and Cole Porter on tonight's Steven Allen Show. Also appearing on the same program were Evangelist Billy Graham and actress Talulah Bankhead, another Alabamian.
May 13, 1957-Almost 150 students from Hartselle Elementary, Collins, Flint, and Plainview who will attend MCHS for the first time next year were visitors there today. Billy Don Aldridge, incoming student council president, was assisted by seventh grade class president, Suzanne Drinkard, and Maxye Gibson who gave the invocation.
May 14, 1957-The Hartselle city council met for over four hours tonight. A grievance about "drag racing" within the city prompted the council to warn that this practice must end immediately. The city is also looking for an additional policeman to enforce the law. He will make $2,080 annually. The council also voted to give a $5 per week raise to firemen.

May 15, 1957-Hartselle firemen don't know how it started but a blaze quickly swept through the unoccupied 40-year-old Harold Parker home last night just a few days after its invalid occupant (Mr. Parker's mother) had moved to a rest home.
