A memorial service for Capt. Carroll L. Nelson Sr., 69, of Hartselle was Tuesday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Drs. Mike Zimmerman and Jeff Redmond officiating.
Mr. Nelson died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at his residence. \ He was a captain in the U.S. Army for 17 years and served with the 199th Airborne-Swamp Fox Division. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle and a former member of First Baptist Church in Bay City, Tex. He was retired from Conoco Phillips Petroleum in Sweeney, Tex.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley J. Nelson of Hartselle; two sons, Carroll L. Nelson Jr. and wife Liza of Frisco, Tex. and Timothy S. Nelson and wife Jeni of Hartselle; a sister, Nickey Jones and husband Don of Van Vleck, Tex,; and five grandchildren, Carroll Nelson III, Colin Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Mallory Nelson and Joseph Nelson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of the Valley, 240 Johnston St. SE, Decatur, AL35601, the Alabama Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Alabama Kidney Foundation.
