April 26, 1957-James (Curley) Roberts, a talented Hartselle photographer, won $25 in a drawing at Semmes Motor Company in Decatur this afternoon.
April 27, 1957—Six modern motel rooms are under construction at the north side of All States Tourist Court in Decatur. The estimated cost of the additional rooms is $12,000, according to R. E. Hardwick, owner, and formerly a long-time Hartselle businessman. Each room will be equipped with a television set, tile bath, and air conditioning.
April 28, 1957-McRae Motors in Decatur has been approved by the Memphis branch of Ford Motor Co. for a dealership of the new Edsel automobiles being manufactured by Ford. Show dates of the new cars are August 13 to dealers and September 1 to the public.
April 29, 1957-A young Morgan County man, Charles Hodge, appeared on the Ernie Ford TV show tonight along with the other members of the Marksman’s Quartet.
April 29, 1957-Negotiations are continuing between officials of Flint and the state in an effort to erase a situation that has been labeled a “speed trap” by some critics. Presently Flint City has a 40 mph ordinance regulating Highway 31 traffic through the town. In contrast, the present state speed limit is 60 for autos and 50 trucks.
April 30, 1957-A petition asking for an injunction to abate the nuisance of the Falkville American Legion Home has been filed in the Register in Chancery office at the Morgan County courthouse by Solicitor Ralph Slate. This action is the result of a raid made by Morgan sheriff’s forces on April 12.
May 1, 1957-Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Tanner were visitors to the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa today as a part of the observance of Commerce Day at the Capstone. The Tanners’ son, Billy Charles, is a business student at Bama.
May 1, 1957-Effective today Hartselle downtown merchants are being asked to place their garbage in containers. If the request is ignored, the state deputy fire marshal will be called in to take immediate action.
Hartselle has one of the highest fire insurance rates in north Alabama simply because of the fire hazards of faulty garbage disposal.
