April 19, 1957-Members of the Ag II class at MCHS recently gave the school lunchroom a coat of concrete paint. Students participating in this project included Buddy Roberts, Skipper Drinkard, Ted Lindsey, Joel Ward, Jimmy Mayfield and Rayburn Freeman.
April 20, 1957-Hartselle Elementary School was the site this morning of the senior 4-H talent contest. The big winner was Brenda Pirkle of Eva High School.
April 21, 1957-Patsy Alexander has been elected head cheerleader at Morgan County High School for 1956-57 by a vote of the student council and faculty. Patsy was on the squad last year as were Lee Block and Betty McClain. Elected to lead cheers with Patsy, Lee, and Betty for the first time were Pat Hogan, Carolyn Hartselle, Ann Mattox, Brenda Frazer, and Dare Sims.
April 22, 1957-Huntsville and several other Alabama towns are planning to go on Daylight Saving Time (“fast time”) May 4, and half of Birmingham will make the change three days earlier. Ideally the entire state would have the same time system but this won’t be the case this year. Although the subject has been discussed, Hartselle’s city fathers have made no final decision as far as DST is concerned.
April 23, 1957-The following men left today for Montgomery as draftees into the United States Army: Waymon Johnson, Danville; Charles Ray, Decatur; Lee Woodall, Eva; Bobby Wise, Hartselle; Montie Free, Falkville; Bobby Wynn, Hartselle; and Howard Hale, Lacon.
April 23, 1957-Hartselle city employees will continue to receive a one week’s paid vacation each year if they have served the town continuously for at least one year’s time. If they prefer, however, they may decline the time-off and accept an extra weekly pay instead.
This action was taken at a regular meeting of the Hartselle city council tonight.
April 24, 1957-The senior class at MCHS is hard at work this week in preparation for the “Senior Spectacular of 1957” which will be presented to the public May 9 and 10. The variety show will feature members of this year’s graduation class in acts ranging from jazz to slapstick skits. As a bonus for those attending, a deep fat fryer will be given as a door prize.
April 25, 1957-Gene Brindley Horton lost a yellow gold Wittnaur watch this morning. She is offering a reward for the return of her timepiece.
