March 1, 1957-Bowes Channell (who scored 19 points) inspired the MCHS Tigers to beat Huntsville's Panthers 46-45 in a seventh district AA tournament upset tonight. The win means that MCHS will play in the championship game tomorrow night.
March 1, 1957-Jim Cain and Scotty Stone completed a Scoutmaster training course in Decatur tonight.
March 2, 1957-Famed Hartselle author William Bradford Huie will be the subject of a feature story in an upcoming issue of Saga magazine. Mr. Huie was interviewed for the story today by Ed Linn, a freelance writer from New York.
March 3, 1957-Hartselle's electricity department has a new service truck. The Ford vehicle was purchased from the low bidder, Nicholson Motor Co.
March 4, 1957-The city is currently receiving bids on 20 new parking meters to be installed downtown. Fifteen of the new meters will be installed at the old Minor Refrigeration and Block Clinic sites and Shull Used Cars. The remaining five will replace old ones that are in bad condition.
March 5, 1957-Sam Nelson, brother of former Hartselle Mayor Sim Nelson, died at Decatur General Hospital today. He was a retired groceryman.
March 5, 1957-The home of the R. P. Brown family on U.S. 31 burned to the ground this morning. The HFD was called but could provide no assistance since the road from the highway to the house was impassable.
March 5, 1957-G. S. Smith, a former president of the AEA who lives in Cullman, gave a talk to the Hartselle Kiwanis Club tonight.
In his remarks he noted that Hartselle had erected one of the first county high schools in the state as a result of the 1907 Comer Act. He added, however, "the school building is still in use, not now as a mark of distinction or an attraction to your city, but as an obsolete structure."
March 6, 1957-As was feared, the winning streak of the MCHS basketball Tigers came to an end this afternoon at Foster Auditorium at the University of Alabama.
The local team was trounced by Woodlawn, 75-41.
March 7, 1957-"Catch That Thief," a comedy, was presented by the Falkville High School Dramatics Club tonight. J. D. Light directed the play and Broadhead and Cook Furniture of Hartselle furnished the stage.
