Funeral for Ray R. Asherbranner, 74, of Falkville will be Thursday (today), at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Greg Compton officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Asherbranner died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Morgan County to William Henry Asherbranner and Tommie Ellen Partridge Asherbranner. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He and his wife, Martha Shaw Asherbranner, were married March 13, 1955. He was one of the founding members of Massey Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as assistant chief for a number of years and as chief for 13 years. He was serving as chief emeritus at the time of his death.
Mr. Asherbranner retired from United Stage and Equipment Co. in Hartselle in 1997, where he was a machinist/shop foreman for 40 years. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis Asherbranner, Opel Asherbranner and Oather Asherbranner and four sisters, Ruthie Asherbranner Poole and husband Walter, Imogene Asherbranner Poole and husband Ellis, Christine Asherbranner Greer and husband Thomas and Lovene Asherbranner. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Martha L. Shaw Asherbranner of Falkville; two sons, Ronald Ray Asherbranner and wife Jennifer and Phillip Jay Asherbranner and wife Wilma, all of Falkville; a daughter, Pamela Asherbranner McDonald and husband John of Falkville; a brother, W. A. “Buddy” Asherbranner and wife Clezell of Falkville; five grandchildren, Melinda Asherbranner Haynes and husband J. P. of Vinemont, Matthew Ray Asherbranner, Julie Anne Asherbranner, Nathaniel Jacob MacDonald and Emily Rose MacDonald, all of Falkville.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Asherbranner, J. P. Haynes, Willard Asherbranner, Leon Asherbranner, Milton Greer and Kyle Asherbranner.
