Lady Tigers back up ranking with win over No. 3 Arab

Hartselle girls 49, Arab girls 44
No. 2 Hartselle proved its status among the elite teams in the state with a win over No. 3 Arab Saturday night. The game was rescheduled from November when Hartselle was still alive in the state football playoffs.
Three times this season Hartselle has faced a ranked team in Class 5A. The Lady Tigers are 3-0 in those contests – the win over Arab and two wins over No. 4 Athens. Hartselle also has wins over Class 6A No. 8 Carver-Montgomery and Class 4A No. 5 Lawrence County.
Hartselle (18-3) was led by Lauren Drake's 20-point night. Mary Virginia Reeves finished with a double-double for the Lady Tigers, scoring 11 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
Arab guard Alli Smalley, a candidate for Player of the Year who is committed to Auburn, led Arab with 16 points.
Hartselle boys 63, Arab boys 56
The Tigers broke a three-game losing streak to complete the sweep of Arab at the Pettey Center Saturday evening.
Hartselle (10-11) got 20 points from Jackson Holmes and nine points each from Alex Brown and Tyler Young.
Arab hit 11 three-pointers in the game, but the Tigers' defense allowed little else. The Knights were led by Andrew Fortner's 18 points.
New Hope girls 69, Danville girls 57 (OT)
The Lady Hawks led 27-16 at halftime but New Hope responded to tie the game at 57 in regulation. Danville was held off the scoreboard in the extra period.
Alaina Fitzgerald led Danville (12-8) with 18 points, followed by Lauren Simmons with 17. Magen Linderman added 10 points and seven rebounds and Bethany Evans dished out six assists. Simmons also had seven rebounds.
New Hope was led by Brittany Foreman's 37 points.
New Hope boys 66, Danville boys 43
The Hawks dropped a home game Saturday night against New Hope, despite Zack Orr's 14 points and six rebounds.
Trey Brandon had 25 points to lead the victors.
Brewer girls 58, Austin girls 48
The Lady Patriots picked up their 10th win of the season on the road Saturday afternoon.
Courtney Scott led the way for Brewer (10-6) with 13 points. Emily Dabbs added 11 for the Lady Patriots, who also played a game Friday evening in a win over East Lawrence.
China McDaniel scored 19 to lead Austin.
