Governor’s inauguration to feature local country band

A song written and recorded about Governor Bob Riley’s run for reelection has triggered an important break in the music business for Morgan County’s Jeff Whitlow and his Old Barn Band. They have been booked to play at Riley’s Jan. 12 Boots and Barbecue Inauguration Party at the governor’s mansion.
Whitlow said he’s glad he’s among those who will be a part of the governor’s second term of office.
Whitlow said the party will be staged in a large tent next to the governor’s mansion and is expected to last about three hours. His band will play mostly older country music, the kind that was popular in the 50s and 60s.
Whitlow owns Doyle’s Supply in Decatur, a wholesale welding supplier. He leads his band as a vocalist and rhythm guitarist. Other band members are Mike Thompson, keyboard; Phillip Hughes, bass guitar; Leverette Blankenship, drummer; Wayne Reburn and Porter Dutton, Jr., both lead guitarists; David Woodard, rhythm guitarist; and Dicky Moebes, sound engineer.
Whitlow’s band has performed in Hartselle’s Music in the Park series. It also perfomed in the East wing of the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville last year in February prior to the George Jones Concert.
