Kindergarten cowgirls and cowboys saddled up for a family rodeo adventure at Danville-Neel Elementary School recently.
A kindergarten rodeo for students, their parents, younger siblings and grandparents was hosted by kindergarten teachers May 19 on the grounds of DNES. Young buckaroos and their families enjoyed a variety of western activities, including horse rides provided by Mike Terrell and family, a roping show by Cooper and Colton McCay, a mule-drawn wagon ride by Dathern Smith, and a petting zoo featuring a camel provided by Kim and Richard Ramey.
"It's been a wonderful experience," DNES kindergarten teacher Susan McKee said. "It's a day to reward students for all their hard work this school year and share their accomplishments with their families."
Kindergarten students kicked off the event by riding onto the schoolyard on stick horses they made with their parents. Students then recited the poem "I'm a Little Cowboy" and danced while singing "Old Brass Wagon."
Kindergartner Morgan Bryson sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" to classmates dressed in cowboy hats, bandanas and even chaps. Kindergartners also performed a square dance, which they learned in P.E. class this year.
The daylong event concluded with everyone enjoying Sno-Cones and popcorn, a lunch grilled on the grounds, barrel rolling and a variety of other cowboy games.
