Mayor Jimmie Walker called the April 4 town council meeting to order. All council members were present.
Approved March 7 council meeting minutes.
Approved of March 28 work session minutes.
Approved request for parade permit for Walk for Jesus
Approved a two-year request for advertising from varsity cheerleader, Lauren Estes, for a vinyl sign to be displayed at Falkville High School home football and basketball games
Approved motion to become a member of the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce for a fee of $75. Thompson moved for approval to become a member of the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce under the condition that it is legal. Attorney Larry Madison stated there are several attorney general's opinions addressing this issue.
Approved Resolution No. 2006-06, approval of MWPP report.
Approved Resolution No. 2006-07, approval of purchase of trash pump from Hydra Service for $29,855.
Approved Resolution No. 2006-08, approval of purchase of patrol car from Carl Gregory Dodge for $31,944 and provide arrangements of financing.
Approved Resolution No. 2006-09, approval of training for police department. Mayor Walker cautioned the police department about watching their budget on training.
Adopted Ordinance No. 2006-01, providing for annexation of certain properties. Wilson moved for immediate consideration of Ordinance No. 2006-01 and for suspension of the rules and regulations regarding adoption of same. Second by Stiles. Roll call vote all yea.
Approved request from Park and Recreation Department for approval of reconditioning football helmets of a cost up to $700.
Department Reports
Fowler: Would be having a finance committee meeting on cost of living increase.
Thompson: Hal Chaney was awarded the cemetery maintenance job.
Stiles: Reported looking into an ordinance on false fire alarms. Looking at utility rate changes. The town is not collecting fees to effectively run the water and sewer department. ADEM has increased its requirements. Testing is an estimated $8,000, which was not budgeted. We are looking at certain rate comparisons.
Edmondson: No report.
Wilson: We have bid the patrol car a second time. We only received one bid. The vehicle will be completely equipped and have a written warranty.
Chief Free: Reported the Reserves will be having a golf tournament on Aug. 5. We are seeking hole sponsors. We have a new officer, John Dickson.
Weaver: Stated Dodge had 0 percent financing.
Vicky Smith introduced herself as a candidate for Morgan County superintendent.
No further comments. Stiles moved and second by Wilson for adjournment of council meeting.
