Hartselle girls come back against Austin

Danville teams close out regular seasons with wins

Down 10-1 early to Austin, the Lady Tigers didn't panic and showed the kind of effort that has kept them ranked No. 2 in Class 5A for over a month. Hartselle bounced back and held on to win a close 45-40 game in Decatur.
The Lady Tigers outscored Austin 13-3 in the second quarter and led 14-13 at halftime but fell behind once more and trailed 30-24 going into the fourth quarter.
Hartselle would not again regain the lead until Lauren Drake hit a lay-up with 42 seconds left to put the Lady Tigers up 41-40. Drake and teammate Shan Jones then combined for four free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Drake had 14 points to lead all scorers and Anna Reeves finished with nine points for Hartselle (22-5).
Tamara Weatherby and Carrier Hosier each had nine points to lead Austin.

Hartselle's hard-luck season continued Friday night as the Tigers fell on the road to Class 6A Austin.
Johnny Jones had 12 points to lead Hartselle (2-23), which has not won a game since Jan. 6 against Russellville. Justin Billings added nine and Tyler Young had eight for the Tigers, who trailed by 14 at halftime and 21 after three quarters of play.
Jay Sears had 25 points to lead the Black Bears.

Priceville girls 66
The Lady Hawks closed out their regular season one game over .500 as they squeaked by Priceville Saturday night.
Danville led by 10 points at the halftime break before holding on for the victory.
Bethany Evans had 24 points to lead Danville (13-12) in scoring. Alaina Fitzgerald had 16 and Lauren Simmons added 11 for the Lady Hawks. Simmons' lay-up as time expired proved to be the winning basket.
Keila Hamlin's game-high 27 points paced Priceville (18-10). Adrianna Delatorre added 10 for the Lady Bulldogs.

Priceville boys 66 (2 OT)
The Hawks made it a home sweep of Priceville Saturday night, hanging on for a wild double overtime victory over the Bulldogs.
Danville trailed 42-35 going into the fourth quarter before coming back and tying the game at 57-all heading into the first overtime. The teams remained tied after the first overtime ended with a 62-all score, but the Hawks took over from there.
Chris Vest scored 24 points to lead Danville (14-10), and Stratton Garner and Zach Orr each had 17 for the Hawks.
Josh Bedwell had 25 points for Priceville (16-11) in a losing effort. The Bulldogs' Alex Cannon added 22 points and K.C. Green finished with 10.

Falkville girls 37
Friday night, Emily Dabbs led Falkville (13-10) with 11 points as the Lady Blue Devils dropped a game against Addison.
Jessy Willingham had 15 points to lead the way for the Lady Bulldogs.
Falkville boys 73
Addison boys 63 (OT)
The Blue Devils dominated overtime, outscoring Addison 17-7 as they gave the Bulldogs just their fourth loss of the season.
Heath Alford led the way with 24 points for Falkville (14-10), followed by Adam Dye with 17 points. Cody Sewell added 10 for the Blue Devils.
Kyle Carden had 16 points to lead Addison.
Brewer girls 66
Madison Academy girls 40
Eleven different players scored for Brewer (17-10) as the Lady Patriots cruised on the road Friday night.
Nichole Hayes and Genie Browning each had 12 points for Brewer and Meagan Hormel added 11.
Alissa Hargett had 16 points to lead Madison Academy.

The Patriots' high-powered offense hit a snag on the road Friday night.
Matt Nielsen had nine points to lead Brewer (16-12).
