The Morgan County Commission voted 3-2 to change its regular meeting dates from the second and fourth Monday to the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, effective in February, at its Jan. 9 meeting. The time of the meetings was also changed from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The governing body will conduct a work session beginning at 8:30 a.m. prior to each meeting.
Voting against the change were commissioners Stacy George and Kevin Murphy.
"If Tuesday meetings don't work out, we can always go back to Monday," George said. "But I'm holding out for Monday because I feel like it is in the best interest of the public."
Commission Chairman John Glasscock said Tuesday meetings would eliminate a conflict with holidays observed on Monday and give county office staffs more time to prepare for work sessions as well as regular meetings.
He added meeting an hour later than usual would give the commission more time to work out the details of items that are subject to be placed on the meeting agenda for consideration.
"There have been occasions when time for the meeting would arrive before we were finished with the work session. In those cases, we'd have to stop and conduct the meeting and resume the work session after the meeting," he said.
George was appointed to serve as chairman pro tem in 2006.
