Lady Hawks fall in OT to Vinemont

Danville boys win, Falkville splits against Westminster

The Lady Hawks played a close game throughout but fell 70-61 in overtime to Vinemont Friday night on the road. Danville suffered its first area loss of the season to fall to 3-2 overall.
The game was tied 28-28 at the half and 55-55 at the end of regulation, but the overtime was all Vinemont.
Four players in the game scored 20 points or more – for Danville, Alaina Fitzgerald had 24 points and Kristen Sparkman had 21, and for Vinemont, Brittany Speagle had 22 points and Macy Bailey scored 23.
Sparkman finished the game with a double-double after collecting 14 rebounds to lead the team. Bethany Evans and Fitzgerald each had seven assists and Lauren Simmons added nine rebounds for the Lady Hawks.

Danville's Hawks led early but Vinemont's Eagles took control in the second quarter and went to win a key area game at home Friday night by a score of 65-54. The loss dropped the Hawks to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in area games.
The Hawks were ahead 21-17 after the first period but Vinemont grabbed the lead in the second period and never looked back. They were ahead 34-28 at the half and 53-39 after three quarters.
"They were ready to play and we weren't," Danville head coach Robert Pope said. "They controlled the game by shooting well from the perimeter."
Drew Osborne led the Hawks in scoring with 11 points. Chris Vest followed with nine and Stratton Garner, Tyree Murphy and Roger Smith each had eight.
Joe Bryan canned six three-pointers and paced Vinemont with 30 points. Corey Whittle had 16 points.
Westminster boys 76
Falkville boys 58
Falkville's Blue Devils felt the sting of defeat for the second time this season as they fell to the Westminster Christian Academy Wildcats, 58-76, in an area road game Friday.
The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in area games.
"We started out pretty well and trailed by only two points at halftime," Falkville head coach Yancey Randolph said. "But after that we got into some foul trouble and couldn't get anything going."
Alford paced the Blue Devils in scoring with 24 points. Adam Dye added 18 points.

Westminster girls 40
Falkville's Lady Blue Devils grabbed an early advantage and went on to defeat Westminster 48-40 in an area contest on the road Friday. The win gave them a 1-1 record in area play.
The Lady Blue Devils held a 14-11 edge after one period and were ahead 23-18 at the half and 32-26 after three quarters.
"We showed good aggressiveness and converted 18-of-25 free throw attempts. That played a big part in the outcome of the game," Falkville head coach Jeff Andrews said.
Emily Dobbs led the Lady Blue Devils with 18 points. Tara Tucker had 10, Kayla Widener, seven and Whitney Eaves, six.
Anna Claire Nelson paced Westminster with 10 points and Mary Anna Johnson added nine.
