Hartselle's Jessica Lyle has added a college championship ring to her collection of three high school state softball championship rings.
Lyle and her softball teammates at Troy University captured the regular season championship of the 2005 Atlantic Sun Conference with a 17-3 record.
They were honored recently at the halftime of the Troy vs. Florida International football game.
Lyle, a sophomore first baseman, was named an academic all-conference player. She is attending Troy on an athletic scholarship.
"These athletes have worked their entire lives to reach this pinnacle of success in Division I athletics," head coach Melanie Davis said. "I am extremely excited that we are able to honor each of them with the presentation of their Atlantic Sun Conference championship rings."
Besides winning the conference title in 2005, the Trojans also reached other school milestones. They were ranked as high at 27th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, recorded wins over renowned programs such as FAU, Maryland, Georgia Tech and Florida State and recorded the program's 500th win in Division I.
Lyle was an outstanding performer for Hartselle's Lady Tigers. As a pitcher/first baseman she received all-state honors in her junior and senior seasons.
She is the daughter of Randy and Cindy Lyle and granddaughter of Virginia Sims, all of Hartselle, and granddaughter of Boyce and June Lyle of Decatur. Her sister, Alison Lyle, is a freshman at The University of Alabama.
