Peggy McDonald Handschumaker

Funeral for Peggy McDonald Handschumaker, 64, of Decatur was Sunday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Handschumaker officiating. Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Handschumaker lost her seven-year battle with cancer on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 18, 1941, in Morgan County to Homer Parks McDonald and Dezzie Wallace McDonald. She graduated from Morgan County High School in 1959. She worked at Decatur General Hospital as a nurse until she was employed by General Electric. Mrs. Handschumaker enjoyed camping, cross-stitching, crocheting and would have celebrated her 30th wedding anniversary on Nov. 5. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Ray McDonald and a sister, Helen Maverine Sparkman.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Jim Handschumaker; a son, Tim Johnson of Neel; two daughters, Tammy Johnson Widner of Neel and Tara Johnson Baldwin of Madison; five grandchildren, April Braun, Justin Watson, Whitney Watson, Will Johnson and Emily Widner; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Issac.
Pallbearers were Anthony Widner, Tim Johnson, Justin Watson, Steve Watson, Glenn Braun and Daniel DeQuasada.
