August 4, 1955 -Scotty Stone, currently in Switzerland as an exchange student in the Experiment in International Living Program, has written home that he went swimming in Lake Thune but "it was cold as ice." He also reported that he had hiked about ten miles in the Alps "and since I walk faster than the others I arrived at our destination about 15 minutes head of the next two in the group."
August 4, 1955 -Dr. and Mrs. Walter C. Duncan and family moved this week into the new three-bedroom house at 310 Simpson Avenue, built earlier this year by Orville Tanner.
August 5, 1955 -A Decatur softball-playing combination of Kiwanis and Civitan club members beat Kiwanis-Civitan of Hartselle in a game played tonight. Robert Stephenson and James Stephenson were the two Hartselle moundsmen who bowed to the superior Decatur bats.
August 6, 1955 -Bobby Ray Hicks and Bob Orr spent today in Tuscaloosa looking for living quarters for the coming school year at the University of Alabama.
August 6, 1955 -Richard Wallace, Hartselle area insurance man, was robbed of approximately $400 while asleep in his home last night. Someone entered the dwelling and took the cash that Mr. Wallace had recently collected in premiums from his clients.
August 7, 1955 -J. P. Cain is the new assistant principal at MCHS, replacing Raymond Screws who has moved to Florida to take a teaching job.
August 7, 1955 -Norris Turney, Coy Turney, Bowes Channell, Don Summerford, and Paul Summerford attended the model airplane show at the Birmingham municipal airport this afternoon.
August 8, 1955 -Mrs. Elliotte Howell and daughter Helen were shopping in Birmingham recently. Helen will be returning to her studies at Huntingdon College in Montgomery next month. (Mrs. Howell passed away on July 23.)
