Although they lost out in their bid for the big prize, Hartselle's Ponytails All-Stars received special recognition for the manner in which they played in the Dixie League State Tournament in Montgomery July 15-19.
When awards were handed out after the championship game, Hartselle received the Sportsmanship Trophy. Its recipient is selected by vote of game officials based on the attitudes and actions of the players, coaches and fans. Hartselle received a similar trophy following the District I championship game.
The tournament director said officials indicated they were especially impressed with how the coaches put the interests of their players first and the self-control they demonstrated when judgment calls went against their team.
In addition to the trophy, the coaches and players received individual medals.
"This recognition is a testament to the class of our players, coaches and fans," said Pam Gray, Hartselle Ponytails commissioner.
