Office manager, receptionist accused of theft

Two Hartselle women face theft charges after allegedly taking more than $44,000 from their employer, a local physician.
Dawn Marie Henderson, 37, of 505 Harvey Street NW, and Tabatha Lynn Fagan, 38, of 413 Camellia Street, were arrested last week on first degree theft charges. The women worked for Dr. Robert Heuermann.
According to Hartselle Police Investigator Alan McDearmond, the arrests followed a three-month investigation at the doctor's office. Henderson, an office manager, and Fagan, a receptionist, allegedly printed checks from the office computer made out to themselves on Heuermann's account. Heuermann's name was allegedly forged on the checks.
Police said Henderson was authorized to write checks for the business, but only for legitimate business expenses.
The investigation revealed $44,218 had been taken during a 10-month period. Heuermann said they suspect more checks were illegitimate, but he cannot prove who wrote them. Both women were taken to Hartselle City Jail, where they were released on $750 bond.
