July 14, 1955 -Mrs. Lee Palmer is chairman of a group recently named by Hartselle Chamber of Commerce President Ollie Camp. It's the "newcomers' committee" and will have as its mission welcoming people moving to Hartselle. Mrs. Frank Smith is serving as co-chair of the new task force.
July 15, 1955 -The parlor of the Hartselle Methodist Church was the setting this evening for the uniting in holy matrimony of Nancy Allen Pattillo and Richard Ward Stoner. The former Miss Pattillo is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis C. Pattillo while Mr. Stoner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Stoner of Sylacauga.
July 16, 1955 -Pvt. Franklin Hanners, a Hartselle military man, recently made his fifth parachute jump from a C-119 aircraft. Private Hanners is with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.
July 16, 1955 -The Fence Builders' Club has now raised enough money to build a fence around the Tiger football field. A Birmingham firm will construct a tornado-type, steel-link fence with five gates at a cost of $2,878. Robert Street was the leader in the club's fund-raising efforts.
July 17, 1955 -Alabamians may be able to breathe a little easier as a result of a law enacted in Washington today. It provides substantial federal financial assistance to states and localities in dealing with the increasing problem of air pollution.
July 18, 1955 -Hartselle's brand-new 200,000-gallon water storage tank will be connected to the municipal water system next week. This was the report from Coy Stephenson, superintendent of the city water department.
July 19, 1955 -Rolland Oden, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Oden of Eva, is about to finish up a four-week ROTC encampment at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston.
July 20, 1955 -The Auburn-Alabama football game to be played in Birmingham on November 26 is now a sellout. A total of 43,067 reserved seats have been sold for the annual gridiron classic. This is the first pre-season sellout since 1949, the second year of the renewal of the Tiger-Tide football series.
