June 30, 1955 -The Cedar Plains Christian Church, decimated by the April 24 tornado, will be rebuilt. This was the message delivered this week by Lovic Orr, head of the Massey Community Club. What is projected to be a largely volunteer effort will begin a month from now.
June 30, 1955 -Mrs. Merrill Doss and her fellow officers are already making plans for activities in support of Hartselle Elementary during the next school year. Mrs. Doss, the PTA president, will be assisted by Mrs. Truman Aldridge (vice-president), Mrs. Coy Sparkman (secretary), and Mrs. Comer Tankersley (treasurer).
July 1, 1955 -Work began today on a multiphase improvement program that will widen U.S. Highway 31 between Decatur and Hartselle.
July 2, 1955 -Dr. W. H. Block is taking an increasingly important part in matters relating to heart health at both the state and national levels. The esteemed Hartselle physician recently returned from a meeting of the board of directors of the American Heart Association in New York City.
July 2, 1955 -June Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howell Long of Falkville will be married later this summer to Donald Stephenson of Dallas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Coy Stephenson.
July 3, 1955 -William Bradford Huie has gone to Hollywood to assist in the filming of his book, "The Revolt of Mamie Stover."
July 4, 1955 -Morgan County will have a new park for use on future July Fourths as well as all other occasions if all goes as planned. The idea is to set aside an area adjacent to the Hartselle water plant at Flint Creek for strictly recreational purposes. TVA owns the land so its board of directors will have to give their approval.
July 5, 1955 -MCHS Principal J. C. Pettey has received the resignation of Raymond Screws, assistant principal. Compensating for this loss is a new acquisition, Roman Higdon, veteran and capable high school teacher who is coming from Priceville High School.
July 6, 1955 -Morgan County Superintendent of Education Lester Wooten and Mrs. Wooten are at present in Chicago for the annual meeting of the National Education Association.
