Governor Bob Riley was the featured speaker at the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce banquet a couple of nights ago.
April 21, 1955 -The annual dinner of the Hartselle Chamber of Commerce was held tonight at the Methodist Church. The keynote speaker was Dr. Frank J. Soday, chief of research at Chemstrand. Approximately 125 members attended.
April 21, 1955 -None of the 250 Hartselle elementary students who were vaccinated with the Salk polio vaccine yesterday seem to be suffering any adverse reactions.
April 22 1955 -Katherine Dunaway and Flora Hammond, members of the junior class of Morgan County High School, recently participated in Birmingham-Southern College's first "Weekend on the Hilltop."
April 23, 1955 – Mr. And Mrs. Willis Hicks are visiting their son, UA Student Bobby Ray, in Tuscaloosa this weekend.
April 24, 1955 -In the case of Hartselle fisherman "Cotton" McDaniel this big one strictly did not get away. It's an eight-pound, one-ounce, small-mouth bass, caught this afternoon at Second Creek below Wheeler Dam, measuring 24 inches long and 18 and a quarter inches in girth. The big bass has been entered in the Athens Fisherman's rodeo and the national Field and Stream contest. Right now it is leading all contenders in the Athens event.
April 24, 1955 -Student preachers J. E. Bishop and Junior Hill filled the pulpit at Hartselle's First Baptist Church today. J. E. spoke at the morning and Junior at the evening service.
April 25, 1955 -Utilities will no longer be under the city council's direct control. The new Utilities Board of the City of Hartselle-Fred Bennett, L. H. Houston, and Bill Stewart-will have the responsibility for overseeing sewers, water, gas, etc., from now on.
April 26, 1955 -Local appliance dealer Sam Minor and his family are excited about the prospect of moving into their new home on Hickory Street in the very near future. Enquirer editor and publisher Jack Hoffhaus is currently building a new home on Pearl Street.
