Splitsville for the Tigers

The Hartselle Tiger baseball team went 2-2 on their weekend trip to Tennessee. The Tigers faced the defending state champs in Faragut High School and came out on top, 12-5. The Tigers also faced the current top-ranked and unbeaten team in the volunteer state, Colliersville, and fell 2-0. The Tigers also took on Briarcrest and Beech.
Hartselle 12, Briarcrest 2
Andrew Reeves was dominant on the mound as he improved to 6-2 on the season with a one-hitter. He struck out seven and walked three in five innings. Keith McCraghren threw the final inning and didn't allow a hit as he fanned one.
Chris Wiley led the Tiger hitters with a three-for-three performance, including a home run and a double, while driving in four runs and scoring twice. Justin Hargett and Jordan Parker both went two-for-three. Hargett had a double, a triple, scored once and drove in one, while Parker had a home run, three RBIs and scored twice. Kris Berry was three-for-four with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Alex Thompson was two-for-four with a run scored. Seth Watson was also two-for-four with two doubles, a RBI and a run scored. Michael Scott had one hit and scored a run. Hunter Brasher had a hit, walked twice and scored three runs.
Hartselle 12, Faragut 5
Zach Smith improved to 5-2 with a seven-hitter over seven innings. He struck out nine, walked one and allowed only three earned runs.
At the plate, Seth Watson had two hits and a RBI, while Wiley was one-for-one with a RBI and scored twice. Parker had a hit, a RBI and scored twice, while Hargett had one hit, scored one run and drove in one. Justin Youngblood had one hit and a RBI, while McCaghren had one hit and scored twice. Berry had one hit, a RBI and scored two runs, while Daxton Maze had two RBIs on ground outs.
Collierville 2, Hartselle 0
Colliersville remained unbeaten as Chris Russell suffered his third loss of the season. He slipped to 5-3 as he threw six innings, allowed three hits and only one earned run while striking out four batters.
The Tigers could muster only four hits, one each by Hargett, Watson, Scott and Thompson.
Beech 8, Hartselle 7
Watson started and threw four-and-a-third innings allowing three hits, five earned runs and striking out four, while walking seven. Chase Lusk followed Watson to the hill and took the loss in spite of throwing only a third of an inning. He allowed four hits and two runs. Steven Chop finished up allowing no hits.
At the plate, Brasher was two-for-two and scored twice, while Maze was two-for-two with a run scored and two RBIs. Hargett had a double, a RBI and scored once. Parker had one hit and two RBIs, while Ja'Cote Ward had a hit and a RBI.
Hartselle slipped to 20-13 on the season with the loss.
The Hartselle Tigers remained unbeaten in area play with a doubleheader sweep of the Muscle Shoals Trojans. The Tigers won by the 10-run rule in the opener and won in their final at-bat in the second game.
Hartselle 10, Muscle Shoals 0
Russell improved to 5-2 with a three-hitter while striking out five and walking none.
At the plate, the Tigers used two homers to put the game out of reach.
Wiley smashed a three-run homer in the fourth inning, followed two batters later by Jordan Parker's two-run homer.
Wiley finished two-for-four, while Parker went two-for-three. Brasher added a double, while Hargett had a hit, a RBI and scored twice. Watson had a hit, a RBI and scored once, while Ward had a hit and a RBI. Scott had two hits, a RBI and scored once. Thompson was two-for-two with a double and also drew a walk.
Hartselle 5, Muscle Shoals 4
Smith improved to 4-2 with two innings of no-hit relief. Smith struck out two, following Andrew Reeves, who tossed one and one-third innings. Watson started and threw three-and-one-third innings. Reeves struck out two and Watson fanned eight batters.
Parker delivered the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single. He drove Wiley home after Wiley had singled, stole second base and moved to third on a ground ball.
Berry had one hit, while McCaghren had a double and Joe McClanahan homered.
