Funeral for Cleo Newman Floyd, 89, of Mountain Brook was Saturday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at John-Ridout's Funeral Parlors Southside Chapel in Birmingham with the Rev. Herb Williamson officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Floyd died March 30, 2005. A longtime resident of Mountain Brook, she retired from Blachs in Mountain Brook Village and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Birmingham.
She had a consuming interest in flowers and gardening and was affectionately known in her neighborhood as the flower lady. She loved being outside, feeding and watching her birds and squirrels, and taking daily walks in the Botanical Gardens. She enjoyed good music, especially opera, and will be well remembered for her famous sour cream cake and holiday fruitcake cups. She leaves her sons a valuable written manuscript, completed years ago, recounting the daily life and major events of her life and the lives of her family during the 1930s, 1940s and WWII. She is survived by two sons, Joe Floyd of Richmond, Va., and Ray Floyd of Vestavia Hills. Memorial gifts may be made to First United Methodist Church of Birmingham, P.O. Box 13037, Birmingham, AL 35202.
