Sam Gilbert 'Gil' Johnson

Funeral for Sam Gilbert "Gil" Johnson, 96, of Danville was Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. W.K. Stephenson and Wendell Callahan officiating.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Johnson died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at his residence. He was born May 3, 1908, in Morgan County to Green William Johnson and Nancy Elizabeth Burns Johnson. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gurley Johnson, Homer Johnson, Kyle Johnson and Willie Johnson; and his sisters, Mamie Brown and Lucille White.
He is survived by his wife, Grace B. Jones Johnson of Danville; four sons, Rayburn Johnson of Danville, Boyd Johnson of Statesboro, Ga., and Shelby Johnson and Douglas Johnson, both of Decatur; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Johnson, Hoyt Johnson, Waymon Johnson, Ronald Jones, Steve Sivley, Donnie Jones, Ray Johnson, Jeff McCulloch, Jeremy Johnson and David Johnson.
Memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church or to Unity Baptist Church.
