The newest member of Hartselle's police force has a unique badge number. Officer K-9 is the force's newest – and furriest – member.
Officer K-9, a three-year-old German Shepherd whose name is Argo, was introduced to the Hartselle City Council last week. Argo was funded through corporate and private donations, and did not cost the city any money.
"This cost taxpayers nothing and he's a great tool for us to be able to use in the crime fighting business," HPD Capt. Ron Puckett said.
Argo came from the Netherlands and will be handled by HPD officer Don Carr.
Puckett said the dog will be used to detect drugs and find missing persons.
"He's definitely an asset to the Hartselle Police Department," he said.
