Brewer snaps Cullman winning streak

Brewer High School's Patriots knocked Cullman's Bearcats out of the ranks of the unbeaten with a 65-58 victory at home Friday night. The win improved Brewer's record to 7-2 while Cullman dropped to 8-1.
Three Patriots scored in double figures. Matt Neilsen led the way with 17 points. Austin Mooney had 16 points and Matt Cobbs added 11 points.
Jared Bouldin led Cullman with 18 points. Ben Nobrega added 16 points.
Lady Pats 58,
Lady Bearcats 41
Brewer's Lady Patriots scored 23 points in the first half and went on to defeat Cullman's Lady Bearcats, 58-41, at home Friday night. The win improved Brewer's record to 5-4 while Cullman dropped to 7-2.
Nichole Hayes paced the Lady Patriots with 19 points. Ashley West had 13 points and Andrea Crawford added 11 points. Heather Childers had nine points.
Danville sweeps Hanceville
Hawks 87, Bulldogs 42
Danville's Hawks picked up their second area win in a row and improved their record to 8-1 overall with a convincing 87-42 victory over the Hanceville Bulldogs in a game played at home Dec. 7.
The Hawks took an early lead and were ahead 16-10 after one period. They had a 37-24 lead at halftime and held a commanding 63-29 advantage after three periods.
Nate Orr had 24 points and four assists to lead the winning effort. Three other players scored in double figures. They were Christ Vest with 13 points and Dexter Wimberly and Stratton Garner with 10 points each. Matt Young scored eight points, pulled down eight rebounds and had seven assists. Alex Archer scored six points and had eight rebounds, Wimberly had five assists and Garner had seven rebounds.
John Davidson led the Bulldogs with 16 points while Graham Wright added 14 points.
Lady Hawks 72, Lady Bulldogs 34
The Lady Hawks equaled their record at 3-3 overall and 1-1 in 3A, Area 12 as they breezed past the Hanceville girls. After leading 16-9 at the end of the first period, Danville went on a 40-16 run to put the game away.
Jessica Hazel led three Lady Hawks in double figures with 17 points, Bethany Evans added 13 and Lauren Simmons had 12 more.
Kristen Sparkman and Emily Templeton had eight points each, while Charleston Wilson had five.
Magen Linderman had three, while Mallory Alred, Kasie Cowart and Haley Hensley had two each.
Hazel had six rebounds, while Hensley handed out seven assists and Wilson had five steals.
Priceville sweeps Falkville
Bulldogs 59, Blue Devils 44
Priceville won their second area game in three starts with a 15-point road-win. Josh Bedwell scored 18 points for the winners, followed by Ryan Mouser and Alex Cannon with 10 each. Dale Taylor added eight, Stephen Hardiman seven, KC Green four and Will Stevens had two points.
For Falkville, Heath Alford led the way with a game-high 19 points, followed by Thomas Holt with 12.
Adam Dye and Shane Edge had four each, while Travis McCleskey had three and Cody Sewell and Coty Tapscott scored one each.
Priceville improved to 5-6 overall with the win.
Lady Bulldogs 45, Lady Blue Devils 32
Priceville improved to 7-1 overall and won it's third area game in three starts despite getting a season-low three points from the school's all-time leading scorer.
Emily Jenkins scored 13 to lead the winners, while Jessi Smith added 12 and Kristy Barker had 11 points. Jessica Kennedy added five more, while Tiffany Smith had three and Kathryn Kirby scored one.
Falkville was lead by Katie Defoor with eight, followed by Tara Tucker and Lauren Estes with six each.
Katrina Wildmon had five, Andrea Tucker scored three and Whitney Eaves added two more.
Brewer tops Huntsville
Patriots 65, Panthers 55
The Patriots took an early 10-point lead and held off the Panthers for their first 5A, Area 14 win.
Matt Neilsen scored a game-high 19 points to lead the winners, while Matt Cobbs added 16 and Derrick Black had 13 more.
Austin Mooney had eight, while Travis Boyd had one point.
The Pats improved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in area play.
Lady Panthers 60, Lady Pats 55
Huntsville used a 16-7 run in third period to extend a three-point lead to 12 and put Brewer away. The Lady Pats won the battle of the boards 26-22, but made only 9-of-19 free throws. Courtney Scott led Brewer with 16 points, followed by Andrea Crawford with 10 more.
Ashley West and Nichole Hayes scored nine points each, while Megan Hormel scored six and Andrea Persle added three more and Kayla Amerine scored two points.
Hartselle, Decatur split
Lady Tigers 50, Lady Red Raiders 45
Hartselle bounced back from a loss to Cullman the night before for their eighth win of the season. Hartselle had a double-digit lead in the second period of play, but had to hold on as the visitors cut into the margin in the second half.
Decatur tied the score at 42 with just under four minutes to play, but Hartselle made eight-of-nine free throws to seal the victory.
Shan Jones and Lauren Drake led the winners with 16 and 11 points, respectively. Jessica Andrews added eight, while Mary Virginia Reeves and Anna Reeves had six each. Kayla Orr scored three more for Hartselle.
Lady Tigers now 8-2
Red Raiders 56, Tigers 34
Poor shooting plagued the Tigers and allowed Decatur to turn a nine-point halftime lead into a 22-point win.
Steven Chop led Hartselle with seven points, followed by Justin Billings and Keith Rodgers with six each. Alex Thompson had four, Samuel Massey three, while Eric Norwood, Nathan Kimbrell, Gary Orr and Jackson Holmes scored two each.
The Tigers record dropped to 4-7 overall.
Danville sweeps Pennington
Hawks 63, Tigers 49
Danville's Hawks outscored J.B. Pennington's Tigers by 15 points in the second half and went on to win, 63-49, on the road Friday night.
The win improved Danville's record to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in area games.
The Hawks were up by two points, 16-14, after one period, but the Tigers bounced back to tie the contest at 34-all at halftime. The third quarter score was 46-38 in favor of Danville.
Nate Orr knocked down 23 points while grabbing seven rebounds and handing out seven assists to lead the winning effort.
Patrick Pinchon scored 23 points and had six rebounds.
Matt Young had eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Chris Vest had three points, four rebounds and four assists.
Lady Hawks 55, Lady Tigers 40
Danville's Lady Hawks defeated J.B. Pennington's Lady Tigers, 55-40, in an area contest played on the road Friday night.
The win improved Danville's record to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in area play.
The score was tied at 26-all at halftime; however, the Lady Hawks pulled away in the second half and led 39-33 after three periods.
Jessica Hazel led the Lady Hawks with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Bethany Evans had 14 points and Mallory Alred added 10 points. Megan Linderman handed out five assists.
