Fatal fire victim's brother files suit

By Staff
Leada Gore, Hartselle Enquirer
The brother of the man killed in a 2003 fire at Quail Run Apartments is suing the apartments and its management company, claiming the company didn't do enough to keep the property safe from fire hazards.
Alvaro Salazar has filed a civil suit in Morgan County Circuit Court against Sunbelt Management Companies, operators of Quail Run Apartments. Salazar's brother, Mario Salazar and Mario's wife, Maria Lozano and their son, Kevin Salazar-Lozano, were killed in a July 28, 2003 fire at Quail Run.
Also listed in the suit are Joshua Harris and Amber Wilson. Wilson lived at Quail Run at the time of the fire. Harris allegedly burned a photo in Wilson's apartment, sparking the fire that spread to the entire complex.
A Morgan County Grand Jury failed to issue indictments in the case. Harris and Wilson now live in Decatur.
Salazar is seeking undetermined compensatory and punitive damages.
