Food, fun and lots of festivities are planned for this year's Morgan County Fair. The fair is planned for Oct. 7-16 at the Morgan County Fairgrounds. Activities for all ages are planned for this year.
High school and middle school choral programs are invited to present a 30 minute program on Oct. 12 and Oct. 14.
Both the high school and middle schools choral department with the most supporters in attendance will be awarded $500.
The Morgan County Board of Directors and the Southern Wildlife Festival Board will be collecting coats during the fair Oct. 7-16. Everyone that bring a coat will receive a ticket for a free Pepsi and popcorn.
Coats may be dropped off each night of the fair at the Southern Wildlife Festival booth located inside the Exhibit Building.
There are categories for gardeners, artists, cooks, woodcarvers, seamstresses, quilters, crafters, and many others.
On Oct. 10, "Cobbler Day At The Fair" will be sponsored by Simply Delicious Bakery and Eatery.
Contestants will be judged in two different classes: berry and fruit.
Beginning at 4 p.m., fair-goers will be able to watch as judges determine which cobbler makes their mouth water the most. All entries will be fully cooked when brought to the fair.
"Pie Day at the Fair" will be presented the same day. Activities will begin at 3 p.m .and will be sponsored by Big Bob Gibson's Barbecue. Pies will be judged in fruit, nut and custard categories.
On Oct. 11, Hillshire Farms will present the "Totally Awesome Sandwich Contest" for students.
Two age categories – age 10-13 and age 14-18 – will be offered. Students will bring their ingredients and prepare their sandwiches in front of the judges at 6:30 p.m.
Hillshire Farms will also host the "Smoked Sausage Main Dish Contest" on Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. The winners of this contest might find their recipe on the back of the Hillshire Farm package one day.
Not into baking? Ace Hardward will present the first "Most Creative Bird House Contest" on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m., opening night of the fair. Birdhouses will remain on display for fairgoers to see throughout the 10 days of the fair.
Prize money totaling more than $600 will be awarded in each of
the contests. Entry forms may be picked up at any of the sponsoring businesses as well as supermarkets that sell Hillshire Farms products. Or you may call 303-9599 for more information and to have an entry form mailed directly to you.
"Each night is highlighted with particular music types in order to appeal to a large audience," Jennifer Wright, entertainment director, said.
Oct. 11 will be country music night with special guest entertainers Mike Kalil and Brindlee Mountain.
They will perform at 7 p.m. in the Entertainment Tent at the fairgrounds.
On Sunday, gospel groups from Alabama and Tennessee will present favorites. The line-up includes: New Vision, 2:30-4 p.m; The Gospel Lights, 4-5:30 p.m.; 1 By Faith, 5:30-7 p.m.; The Kent Smith Family, 7-8:30 p.m.; and Spiritual Motivators, 8:30-10 p.m.
On Oct. 16, "The Flashbacks" will perform. The group's style covers Motown to today's rock and roll.

The show will include a variety of songs for all ages.
Children of all ages are invited to "Kids Education Day," at Oct. 8 to learn first hand everything from how bees make honey to churning butter.
