Funeral for Esther Slayton Ward, 78, of Pelham, was Sunday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Joe Hoover and Walter Blackmon officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery
Mrs. Ward died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Riverchase Health &Rehabilitation Center in Birmingham. She was born Jan. 12, 1926, in Morgan County to Arzie Langford Slayton and Estelle Putman Slayton. Mrs. Ward was the original owner of The Little Red School House in Hartselle.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Ward of Pelham; two sons, Joseph Ward and wife Kathleen of Hartselle and Gene Ward, Jr. of Birmingham; two daughters, Bobbie Ward Bowman and Syble Ward Marshall and husband Terry, all of Birmingham; one brother, Earl Slayton and wife Francis of Pensacola, Fla; one sister, Sue Perry of Birmingham; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
